As Food Bank Singapore says, “Why bin it, when you can still eat it?”. Food is one of the basic requirements of sustaining life. Then, isn’t it a tragedy that some have none and others have surplus that they think nothing of before wasting? If you are sensitised enough to understand the importance of your surplus for another person, Singapore has plenty of places that welcome your donations and deliver the food to the hungry and the needy. Food Bank even has bank boxes spread out all over the island, giving you no excuse to let any morsel go to waste.
And with the festive season here, let’s think beyond just our surplus and help the less fortunate by gifting essentials like groceries. There are several charitable organisations that work tirelessly to feed the needy and welcome donations-in-kind. And if you don’t have the time to head-out, you can simply order groceries online (from NTUC or Redmart) and have them delivered to organisations like Food from the Heart or Fei Yue.
So pick a cause that resonates with you and give the gift of food. Here are a few suggestions for charities/organisations that you could choose to donate food to.
The Food Bank Singapore
